The Morning Benders are a San Francisco area indie band with an amazing sound. You can purchase their latest album Big Echo on their website, I promise that you will not be disappointed. In fact, I spent all of yesterday listening to recently released music and The Morning Benders album is currently my favorite record of this genre for the season. Great melodies, great instrumentation and creative songwriting make for an extremely satisfying listen. It appears that I’m about three months behind on the video below, but for those of you who haven’t seen it be sure to check it out. “Excuses” is the first song off of the Big Echo record.

“Promises”

Here’s a new video from The Morning Benders. These guys have been on a steady buzz building mission, mostly built around the success of their phenomenal song “Excuses“, undoubtedly one of the best songs of the year so far. It’s always both exciting and alarming when the first song you hear from a band is so good, because it sets the bar higher than most can reach again. “Promises” is no “Excuses” (sorry, but I’ll be comparing everything they do from now on to that song), but it definitely provides some strong evidence that The Morning Benders are more than a one (kind of) hit wonder.

Stereogum have brought us a celebration of the 10th anniversary of The Strokes‘ debut album Is This It. They have put together an impressive roster of artists to cover the Is This It tracks, including The Morning Benders, Heems from Das Racist, Owen Pallett and Peter Bjorn & John.

Check out a couple of the covers below, and head over to Sterogum to grab the full Stroked download as well as some words from the artists involved. I think these cover albums show us the lasting impact of a great LP, but also the way music evolves, times change, and young upstarts are happy to put synths on anything.
