Prodigy talks his mind about serious matter. If you’ve ever wondered how a rapper from the golden era survived. He’s comes from the grimy and represents his niche market very well. The few subjects he touches on are very insightful to his character and personality. He talks about time inside jail and how he reflected on his mistakes. He’s also talks about leaving 50 cents label. It’s a genuine look into one of the originators of hip-hop. They are a testament to not selling out and staying true to their art form. They know they make good music, what’s the point in evolving and appealing to the mainstream.

Either way the episodes have got me really excited for Mobb Deep’s new projects. 2012 they are free agents, last time they were free agents we saw some of their best music. The 3 episodes I’ve watched are showing me the side of Mobb Deep that I always like. They are not big budget and there is no gimmicks. It’s just about making good music. Plus there’s so good footage of them live. Check out the 2 other videos after the jump.

The Kills – “Pale Blue Eyes” (Cover)
Feb 2012 17

The soulfulness of this track threw me off. It’s guitar and simpleness is just one level on awesomeness. This makes me want to be in a smokey off-beat Quentin Tarantino scene. It’s arguable that Velvet Underground “Pale Blue Eyes” is most likely one of the top 10 classic songs from the 60′s. Either way it’s nice to hear it resurface and even more so because The Kills covered it.

Diplo – “Climax” ft. Usher
Feb 2012 16

Diplo is dropping track left and right that last few weeks. Here’s a smooth, get under the covers type music. Here’s the first of many collab we are going to here from Diplo this year. It’s a perfect match, the chill back vibes and Ushers uber sexiness make this a top notch production. Ushers vocals carry this song perfectly making me want to Climax;)

Inspired & The Sleep – “What I Want and What I Need”
Feb 2012 14

We heard about this last week through Hi54LoFi records, as part of a compilation release to be like a virtual Valentine’s day card. This is just one example and a very good one. “What I Want and What I Need” are not 2 seperate songs but yet like the ying and yang the are in perfect balance….I guess. Anyways. Sorry for the lack of post I’ve been busy with work but I swear to make up for last time in the next few days.

“I aimed to record more of a simple straight forward pop song sort of along the lines of the Moldy Peaches.
In majority the song was written in one late night with the beautiful Kaila Abruzzo who sang on the track as well.
The instrumentation was based around a ukulele part and the chorus melody. I looped some light percussion of finger snaps, and me patting my leg among other various things.
And yes that’s a smooch at the very end. The individual song’s artwork was made by my 8th grade cousin who did a splendid job!”

Amanda Polly’s video for Neverminds “Polly” is mega disturbing. I must say she took Kurt’s “Polly” to another level. It’s disturbing plot about a teenage runaway and eerie soundtrack make the lyrics about rape and torture even more dramatic. This cover song was part of SPIN’s tribute to Nevermind.

Trae Tha Truth – “Im On 2.0″ ft. Big K.R.I.T., Jadakiss, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, B.O.B, Tyga, Gudda Gudda, Bun B & Mark Morrison

I’m On 2.0 – Trae Tha Truth
For anything 2.0 there’s usually an upgrade. So here we got “I’m On 2.0″ going stronger, better, faster with even more feature artists, basically total revamp of the featured artist. Can’t wrong with a sample from “Return of the Mac”.

One of my favorite tracks from 2011 was the Cults “You Know What I Mean”, the eerie hypnotic song brings me back to the 60′s. Cults have perfected their sound, it really does sound like a group with a cult following from the 60′s. The visual treatment is a weird romantic plot and suits the song quite well.

Tennis – “Young & Old” Album Stream
Feb 2012 07

I guess Tennis deems Valentine’s Day to be important because they are releasing their new sophomore album “Young & Old” on that day. I’ve been waiting in anticipation for this album after hearing that The Black Keys’ Patrick Carney was doing the production. and let me tell you after hearing the stream it has lived up to every expectation I’ve had. Check it out!

My new fav artist that’s been on repeat ever since I was introduced, Left Boy just dropped the video for his new song “Survive” featuring the o-so cute voice of Oceane. The visuals are a little tame compared to what we’ve seen in the past from Left Boy, but it does suit the tempo and rhythm of this beautiful song.
