Portugal. The Man – “All Your Light (RZA Remix)”
Apr 2012 10

RZA, the man behind some of Wu-Tangs biggest tracks decided he’d take Portugal, The Man’s “All Your Light” and mold it into one of his perfectly fit to be in a movie soundtrack songs. It’s cool and funky. It’s definitely a RZA masterpiece.

Prodigy – H.N.I.C. 3 Mixtape
Apr 2012 05

I was a little slow on this one, a few months to be exact. It’s times like this that I’m mad at myself. I keep my ear to the ground musically so much sometimes that I even forget to check up on my fav artists. H.N.I.C. 3 is a perfect example of me being like home schooled child. My blinders are on and I’ll only learn what my parents want me to. Anyways this new hardcore mixtape from P is basically all the garbage ;) that didn’t make the cut for his next album H.N.I.C. 3. If this is the garbage then we are in for some realness very soon. I’m soooo excited, a new H.N.I.C. from our freshly released from prison main man P.

This is some creepy stuff. I saw the title with Steve Aoki, Kid Cudi and Travis Barker and I knew we were in for a big budget video but I wasn’t prepared for creepy clown and nuns. Doesn’t get creepier than sad clowns and mean nuns. On the other hand the quality of the video and effects are what keeps this video in dupstep land, it’s a very strange land indeed.

“Skyscrapers” is probably one of my favorite tracks from OK GO, catching me about a year ago by surpise when I saw them live. I was thrown into a trance listening to OK GO featured performance live in 3D. It was a gimmicky concert but nonetheless amazing. I would say this song was one of my favorites songs ever heard live. It has this hypnotic quality that is very rare these days. “Skyscrapers” is another simple yet captivating video from OK GO, it’s beautiful colours and wardrobe are the centrepiece and the visuals are carried by dancers in a more subtle and elegant approach than were are used to from the viral video experts.

The Kickdrums – ‘Follow The Leaders’
Apr 2012 03

The Way It Goes – The Kickdrums ft. Big Pooh
Lights – The Kickdrums ft. Rebecca Jordan
Traces – The Kickdrums
Come Come – The Kickdrums ft. Hot As Sun & Freddie Gibbs
Safer Than Heaven – The Kickdrums
I’ve been following the very eclectic sounds of The Kickdrums over the years. It’s always very refreshing to hear new material from them because it’s always taking the genre to a new level. The Kickdrums latest, and I would safely say biggest project/mixtape ‘Follow The Leaders’ is my favorite. From beginning to end the mixtape carries over several different musical landscapes and for that reason is very listenable. Follow the Leaders also features a big list of artist featured such as Machine Gun Kelly, Big Pooh, Casey Veggies, Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire, Rockie Fresh, to name a few. The big secret here is that the song with Lana Del Rey and A$AP Rocky was removed from the mixtape because Rocky apparently wanted that one for his own album. This mixtape is free and it’s rare that free things amount to this much quality. Cope it now.

Chill Bump – “It’s Alive”

It’s Alive – Chill Bump
As a close friend said ” France is really cool, They have cool stuff like wine and cheese, Daft Punk and Justice” and here’s yet another cool product from the city of love. Chill Bump is basically 2 procducers, Dj Bankal and MC Miscellaneous. There music reminds me of the soundtrack from Snatch slowed down and with a chill bump to it. They just released their second EP ‘Back to the Grain’ yesterday. Cope it. It’s Chill Bump.

Jai Paul – “Jasmine”
Mar 2012 31

Here’s the latest from the mysterious and egmatic Jai Paul. “Jasmine” may not be as instantlly appealing as “BTSU” but the depth and funkiness make this song listenable on repeat easy. IF this is a sign of what’s to come we should be very excited for this XL recoding artists to strike gold.

The Morning Benders A.K.A Pop ETC – Everything is Gone Mixtape
Mar 2012 26

Wow I was surprised this morning when I found out about the new direction of The Morning Benders, you’ll be as well. So here’s their latest mixtape “Everything is Gone” was released with this little remark:

I once went off on a morning bender so bad that I changed my band name to something stupid.“We had just released Big Echo, and for the first time we were preparing for a world tour. We had toured a fair amount leading up to Big Echo, but never overseas, so when it came time to tour the UK and Europe we were quite excited. The touring went well, and we had an amazing time, but also something happened that we hadn’t anticipated. As soon as we had landed in London people started asking us about our band name. “What does ‘Bender’ mean to you?” people would ask. “Are you seriously called ‘The Morning Benders’?” was a common question. For those of you reading from America, you may still be confused. Well, it turns out that the word ‘bender’ in the UK and many parts of Europe is a slang term for ‘homosexual.’ We were told our band name was the equivalent of ‘The Morning Fags’ in America. We had been called The Morning Benders for 5 years, and we were just finding this out now? It was shocking.”

Yeah they changed their name to Pop ETC and I would say the whole general direction of their sound which some may not like but I’m definitely vibing too. Check it out. Fresh fresh, different different, pop pop.
