Home Again – Michael Kiwanuka
Here’s a guy that’s going to rock your world. Well maybe not rock it, but it will definitely move your soul. His first track “Home Again” is very powerful and moving sog. Its the type of song that gives me shivers. You have to give it to Michael Kiwanuka coming fron Uguanda and breaking into the music scene. It’s pretty obvious why once you hear his soulful voice and lyrics. Hit the jump to see the video for “Home Again” and stream The Home Again Ep.
The Naked and Famous have an astonishingly cool video. “No Way” is a sad ballad about letting go I think. Either way I’m touched by the song, lyrics and visuals. How could you go wrong with HD slow motion recordings. It’s so beautiful to see things shattering and exploding in slow motion, there’s something so peaceful about chaos slowed down. Plus you’ve got a rad motorcycle dude getting stuff glass smashed on his head (a little suspense) AND a wicked samarai wielding a katana chasing a bride. Match made in heaven. This is a stunning video. Enjoy!
Everything You Do – Mike and Cody
As X-Mas approaches we start to see some pretty serious and highly anticipated albums. Although Mike and Cody don’t really fall into any of those categories, they do fit in with all the new great material coming out. “Everything You Do” is a simple cute song. Mike and Cody have a hybrid sound of funk electro pop that isn’t hard to digest, it’s actually very easy listening and catches you from the start.
Bad Things – Cults feat. Freddie Gibbs
Indie and Rap….mmnnnn I loves it! I document it and is the reason I’m inspired to contribute on this site. So when I saw the featured artists on this track I almost freaked out. Cults amazing cult-sounding 50′s inspired indie rock laced with Freddie Gibbs gansta flow. YES! They did it. I know these artist are worlds apart but when they are together they sound like one. Anyways watch out for Cult’s new album which is a hip-hop interpretation of their debut album.
I covered this Feist track a few weeks ago. It’s just so chill. So now we have the visuals to this track. “How Come You Never Go There” is off her lastest album Metals. The video is very Feist-esque with her dancing around the forest with long hair and dancing like a tree hugger.
Codex – Deadmau5 (Radiohead Cover)
Deadmau5 remixing Radiohead. Are you ready for a hardcore synth filled remix?? Wrong! This is very out of place for Deadmau5 but nonetheless still amazing. Fellow canadian native Joel Zimmerman took this song and did a complete remix. No samples, no gimicks or tricks. Just a peaceful melodic piece of music you can sit back and relax too. Enioy.
Run Right Back – The Black Keys
Here we go! A second track to The Black Keys‘ forthcoming album, El Camino. “Run Right Back” sounds like the title. It’s a very typical Keys rock infused with a little of country. It’s got me excited to here more. The Black Keys bring and amazing and uplifting song pretty much every time. I was on the look out for them years back and still am. There new material makes me happy. El Camino is dropping November 25th so you can be sure we’ll here a few more surprises before it hits the shelf.
This is the second time I cover King Charles and I’m in love for a second time. There’s something about his voice that keeps me uplifted. He’s a mix of Matisyahu and Bright Eyes – a hard mix to swallow but let your ears do the deciding. King Charles music sorta falls in between many genres. “Ivory Road” is no different yet no less amazing. His pop fused folk and lyrics have a dainty quality to them, mixing the best of old and new.
Green Light – Leisure
I came upon Leisure by accident. But that for me was no accident. More like a coincidence. Either way I’ve been blessed with what some would say is the evolution of music. Where genres, artists and songs meet. The intersection is called evolution. So here you have it, Leisure – slightly new indie rock band. Cross breed between The Cure and U2. Throw in some creativity. the present day indie rock sensibility and an ear for music and voila! You have ” Green Light”. See double vision video after jump.
Like Smoke – Amy Winehouse feat. Nas
“Like Smoke” is some crazy Ms. Cleo look into the future stuff. It’s hard to Imaging but this track was recorded in 2008. This was pre Wall Street and the global financial district occupation. Yet as you listen to Nas lyrics you can’t help imagine that they were inspired by these events. The song itself has a very retro soulful sound that we’ve all come to know and love from Amy.
