Some new SomeWhere Else showing some new material and rad flows. “Bunkers” is a smooth track with some electro sirens making the headline. The beat and production is smooth, I’m enjoying the bass and variety of sounds on my new stereo system and subwoofer (have 2 love concrete construction, bass is melting my face and no complaints).
SomeWhere Else is about to drop The SWEM (The SomeWhere Else Manifesto) while giving us this first music video.
Come Between – Jim-E Stack
New Orleans native Jim-E Stack has been busy in 2012. He just dropped his new EP Come Between. I would say his genre and influences are a mix of 90′s dance vocals combined with a hip-hop rhythm infused with a heavy bass drummachine. Come Between carries a lot of different sounds with a few different directions. It’s very upbeat, impregnated with all types of variety, enough to have on repeat for a while.
I Fink You Freeky – Die Antwoord
When I first of Die Antwoord on The Vice Guide To Everything (Check out this awesome video on MTV, skip to video clip 4 to see Die Antwoord). I was so intrigued by these ghetto South African characters. They are so strange, from their hardcore music, dysfunctional vocabulary, and no hold bars energy. So it’s only normal that I’m excited to see their next album’s material. Die Antwoord’s new album titled Ten$ion is out February 12th. In the mean time we’ve got a video for there hip-hop track “Fok Julie Naaiers” and a new song that shows the diversity of the upcoming album called “I Fink You Freeky” which has a more rave type feel to it.
Zef Style 4 Life!
FYI- The end of this music video is disturbing me….a lot
Man it’s been more than a minute since we’ve heard from Santigold. Her 2008 album debut had to be one of my favorite albums of 2008. Anyways she’s back ya’ll and it looks like she’s right on track with her video for her new song “Big Mouth”. This new song will be featured on her upcoming Master Of Make Believe album which is scheduled to drop sometime in the spring.
VIE – Leftboy
Survive – Leftboy
My man Leftboy has just released 2 more songs to celebrate his 15,000 Facebook fans. It’s most likely that his amazing remix of Lana Del Ray “Video Games” brought him to the forefront of his FB success. Since I’ve started listening to Leftboy I’ve grown very fond of his work. His expertise in bringing hip-hop and indie talent together to make awesome remixes, to the point where the remixes sounds like a completely new song and even better than original.
This is Freddie – Freddie Gibbs
When I first reviewed Freddie Gibbs last year I knew that he was going to make his way to the spotlight. His freestlyle “This Is Freddie” is on my top 10 list of all time. His lyrics are real and hard. Portraying the darker side of the ghetto, actually reminding me of a younger Mobb Deep, infiltrating the scene with hardcore lyrics and imagery. The visuals for “Thuggin” aint no different from his lyrics straight up robbing, drugs, dealing and using. This is hard. This is Freddie.
The Roots dropped “undun” a month ago and it’s only now starting to gain popularity in the New Year. “undun” is what I consider to be one of the best works to-date from The Roots. It’s been of heavy rotation for a month. It has to be one of the best hip-hop albums I’ve heard in a long time. It’s has so much substance, each song carrying it’s own unique rhythm/flow and featured artist. Coninciding with the release of the album The Roots have made a dark 4 part video series featuring songs from “undun”. The series starts with the beginning being the end, telling the tale backward, featuring quotes that we can all relate to and a story that we’ve heard of before yet undun does it in away that makes sense.
Check out the 4 part video series from The Roots after the jump.
In My City – Gramatik
When it comes to instrumental hip-hop few have the talent to make a great full soundscape track. Gramtik took his succesful song “In My Hood” and reworked it for 2012. “Im My City” has all the same features as the original yet Gramatik added a lot more, incorporating a richer sounds and a smoother production – it’s a hit +1.
Alexander Spit just his new 11 track mixtape with specific artwork for each song called These Long Strange Nights last year and is worth noting this year. The visuals for “Real RSWD Pt. !” are sponsored by Bobby Hundreds streetware brand and are pretty simple showing some interesting after party scenes. Alexander Spit hazed out flow and beat selection is premium, it’s obvious on this track as he takes AZ’s “Mo Money Mo Homicide” and carries the torch with it. Check it out and lay back.
“The Night” visuals match the flow of it’s smooth R&B. MMG camp did not corrupt Stalley in any way and he kept his integrity throughout. “The Nights” is off Lincoln Way Nights, which is already out. Don’t let the intro fool you.
