Marvin Gaye – “Sunny (Mercury Edit II)”

Sunny – Marvin Gaye (Mercury Edit iI)
One of my fetishes is Motown. When I listen to Motown I feel like im transported to a time where everything was more carefree, a time when all music sounded amazing. The Swiss duo known as Mercury decided to remix this classic and add there own flair to it, all the while keeping the original feel intack. Happy Friday guys!

Ho Ho Ho! Merry X-Mas from Note Noted team. Here’s some new The xx, I didn’t expect to hear from them in awhile but while they were making their new album they created this demo. Now it’s quite the chilled back song, almost out of genre for The XX but nonetheless still appealing. I wonder if this is a preview of what’s to come.

“Open eyes is a demo we did whilst creating our new album, we just wanted to share it with you. xx” The xx.

Dreams – “OooO”

OooO – Dreams
I could pictures this on a Kanye chorus, this has some old school slightly arabic sounding vocals. “OooO” by Dreams takes you on a audio adventure through dreamland. Don’t know too much about Dreams but am looking into it as we speak. Should of been the other way around but I was too lazy. Enjoy

Change – CHLLNGR
Here’s so real original dub reggae from CHLLNGR. Yes CHLLNGR is a new producer but his sound is quite similar to the pioneers of dub reggae like Scientist and King Tubby, it’s obvious whom his influences are. His take on dub reggae is by dropping in atmospheric elements with a laidback beat. “Change” is off his debut LP Haven. Also here’s the rather different yet perfectly matched visuals.

The 2 Bears – Ghosts & Zombies (Brooks Haunted House Remix)

Ghost & Zombies – The 2 Bears (Brooks Haunted House Remix)
Yes Halloween my fav holiday has passed and instead of cool costumes we are left with eerie x-mas sweaters and x-mas lights that should be put away immediately after the holidays done. Anyways if I have to reminded by your fav holiday than I’ll remind you of mine. This Haunted House remix by Brooks on The 2 Bear’s “Chosts & Zombies” is eerie as well. Most Darkwave and With-House music sounds are very sparse and have no groove or dance feel, but wait to you check this out. Haunted House grooves way harder than Witch House, all the way to the grave. Proops to DFA records for putting this in their collection for 2011.

Gilbert Forte – “Sweet”

Sweet – Gilbert Forte
Every time I cover Gilbert Forte I’m covering a hard beat that he’s lyrically dropping gems on. Wether it’s him over Florence and The Machine or ripping it up with Kanye West, it’s no doubt Gilbert Forte is going to be huge in 2012. This time Gilbert goes over Common’s “Sweet” and does major damage with this freestyle.

Daft Punk – Best Remixes
Dec 2011 31

Something About Us – Daft Punk (Cherokee Remix)
High Fidelity – Daft Punk (Frankie Soukal Lake Shore Remix)
Television Rules The Nation – Daft Punk (Antham Ram Remix)
Around The World – Daft Punk (Nycer Remode Mix)
Highlife – Daft Punk (WBBL Remix)
So those whom know me know that Daft Punk (have framed art in my living room, pictured above) and Mobb Deep (no art in living room) are my favorite artists. Yes one is a happy electro duo from France and the other a gansta duo from Queensbridge. Life is all about balance right? Anyways I figured I’d celebrate the New Years with my favorite remixes of my favorite artiist, Daft Punk. So here’s the scoop. One of my fav remixes and most popular is Cherokee’s “Something About Us” and for very good reason, the gentle chillwave nu-disco beat is very relaxing. “High Fidelity” remix by Frankie Soukal Lake Shore is softer than some of the remixes and in ways more french sounding, the song is relaxed and beat orientated. “Television Rules The Nation” remix from Antham is a much lighter disco spin off from the heavy Daft version. “Around The World” by Nycer Remode is debatable that’s its disco but I find that the synth remake of the main beat makes it more disco than electro/house. Lastly but not least I thought I’d include a Hip-Hop version of “Highlife” which WBBL did a great job with chopping and screwing the original and Ill-Type mixed in some vocals.
