Finally Moving – Pretty Lights
I’m a little late on recognizing Derek Vincent Smith aka Pretty Lights. He’s really good at mashing up beats and concocting something new. Pretty Lights blends hip-hop style beats at a dance music tempo. The use of buzzing synths, moving pads, and classic soul and funk samples. All this mastery is done on his two MacBooks. Give a man a computer and he can accomplish anything. Example “Finally Moving” takes samples from Etta James “Something’s Got A Hold On Me” and William Bell & Judy Clay – “Private Number”‘ and makes a completely new piece.
Here’s some crazy lyrical style by Logic. If you didn’t think this kid had flow check out this track off his mixtape Young Sinatra that he did on “Live On The Air”.
Here’s some fun vids for Sunday. “True Romance” official visuals come from an amazingly choreographed 1987 Telugu movie called “Pasivadi Pranam”. The song does work with the authentic Telugu movie but High Five Collective when a step further and managed to make a supper creepy version that works even better with Citizen’s lyrics. Which is you favorite?

Come Save Me – Jagwar Ma
“Come Save Me” is scheduled to be released February by Antarctica native Jagwar Ma. Yes you heard me right Antarctica, first time I hear of an artist from that region, which is really stupid because if I lived there I’d be pumping out tracks left and right. Whats else is there to do there? But on a serious note “Come Save Me” is an enjoyable listen, it’s has an old yet polished feel to it. The melody is instantly memorable and catchy making this song an instant hit.
Devil’s Work – Miike Snow
Miike Snow hands down has to be one of my top 10 favorite artists. In 2009 the sweedish trio, singer Andrew Wyatt and producers Bloodshy and Avant) changed the indie world into a sophiscated soundscape with meticulosly crafted pop music that got stuck in your head and dark/complicated enough to leep you listening. His last album moved me in a way like no other. His lyrics and melodies moved me to the soul. His album was the soundtrack to my life a little while back. So it’s only normal that I’m uber excited to hear something new from him. It’s been a long time coming but Miike Snow’s new album, still untitled, is due in early 2012, and “Devil’s Work” is the track to date.
The video for “Main Street” was my first introduction to Deer Tick. The video is what caught my attention at first but then the song started taking over my attention, giving me a overall peaceful feeling. The visuals for “Main Street” match the slow moving tempo of the song, Pretty simple video but the cinematography, use of slow motion and fireworks make this video a winner, This is the first video we get to see from Deer Tick’s Divine Providence.
Ivory Coast Crime Scene – The Kid Daytona ft. Action Bronson
The Kid Daytona goes hard on his new The Interlude LP, which I think is properly named because I’m always loving the interlude tracks on a lot of albums. I’m always saying they should of made that interlude into a track. Anyways “Ivory Coast Crime Scene” is exactly that a chilled back true-school vibe that could of been featured on Ghostface’s Fishscales album. Action Bronson hops on the track to provide contrast to the smooth flow with some high energy lyrics. The Interlude drops December 19th.
You Took My Heart – 50 Cent
We haven’t heard from 50 cent in a while. Thats good I guess. I miss the old days when nobody knew who he was and he’s beats were ghetto rough. But 50 declared that his focus is now completely in the music. He just dropped a mixtape called The Big 10. I haven’t heard the whole mixtape but what I’ve heard so far seems pretty tight. Very reminiscent of his first underground albums. The Big 10 features Kidd Kidd, Tony Yayo and Paris. The beats are produced by high caliber producers such as Jake One, Jahlil Beats, Scoop DeVille, and DJ Khalil.

Odyssey – OVERWERK
Lets bring in this Monday hard. I got a crazy wek ahead so I figured I’d throw in a hard banger for those of us who need to work hard and need a little motivation to do so. OVERWERK just released their new EP called The Nth Degree. In total the EP has 5 new songs. The Nth Degree encompasses a blend of OVERWERK’s signature electro house and a beaffy/prehistoric dubstep. “Odyssey” hands down is my favorite track on the EP. The build up is smooth and builds up enough suspense that when the drop hits you are ready to dance hard.
The Coyotes – Mesita
It’s pretty apparent from the album artwork that Mesita reigns from a snowy region, to be more precise Colorado. Mesita aka James Cooley acts alone. You might mistake his full body indie sound for a band but you wrong. He’s actually a master of layering sounds. Using lush backdrops and layered vocals to push his sound further than one man could. “The Coyotes” is the first track I’ve heard from this new artist and if this track is any indication of whats to come then we should be excited. Mesita’s new album drops 2012 and is titled The Coyote.
