Savage Night at the Opera – Destroyer
So yeah, I’m slightly behind on this puppy. Apparently formed in 1995, Daniel Bejar has produced many albums, EPs and even cassettes but just recently got another kick start from a commercial campaign. I guess I was too busy in ’95 listening to some of the greatest such as Smashin Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, and others.
“Savage Night at the Opera” is pretty much like a dream, with a spaced out sound and poetic lyrics that have nothing to do with the title. In fact, that seems to be Destroyer’s theme. The name makes you think aggressive metal rock, but in an ironic twist the music is rather chill and relaxing. Bejar describes it as “European Blues”, which feels fairly accurate.
The visuals got me going along with the impressive undertone of the cars exhaust. For me a sweet sounding car exhaust is equal to music. This video play’s on that and I would say that the soundtrack for the video makes the song somewhat better. But I know to many it maybe unimpressive and not creative, but at the end of the day it’s really all about the music so take this opportunity to test Destroyer.
