I’m not familiar with Metronomy, so I was surprised to see that I hadn’t posted them before. But the 2 songs I’ve heard from them are solid! They are 2 for 2. I’m definitely going to keep an eye out for these guys…

Every time we think Theophilus London is more polished, more ready for the mainstream, and has another “mission statement” type track, he tops it. I think this is the last one we’ll hear from him, cause you can’t really top “Last Name London.” If someone hasn’t heard Theophilus’ unique brand of genre-bending hip-hop, this is the first track you give them. It’s fitting because it’s the lead single on his debut album, Timez Are Weird These Days, out July 19th. It’s another incredibly strong release from an incredibly diverse rapper. Can’t wait to hear what he’s got in store for the album.

This is awesome. Drake hops on producer SBTRKT’s “Wildfire”, which also features Yukimi Nagano (one of my many indie crushes) from Little Dragon, for an excellent remix.

Mac Miller hit 400,000 Twitter followers today. In light of the achievement, he released this new track that samples The Temper Trap’s “Love Lost”. Next up for Mac is his debut album with Rostrum Records. Although he’s been doing things independently, the Pittsburgh rapper formerly known as Easy Mac has been working with big name producers like Just Blaze, so we’ll see what he has in store soon enough. For now, more free music.

If you intend to remix a Biggie track, take note, this is how it should be done. Select a song you fancy, fatten it up with some thick Dubstep bass blurps, and then run a high voltage electrical current through that bitch. 17-year old Swedish producer Superginger is officially guilty for just shredding my left headphone earpiece.

This is impressive work from a young guy who was only three years old when the Notorious B.I.G. left us. Do that math, it’s nuts.

Crank up this reenergized version of “Gimme The Loot”, below.

Here’s a great example of why I hate mainstream rappers. Their gimmick outreaches my thirst for good music. This is what hip-hop sounds to me when someone drivesby in their car playing some garbage rap. Sounds barbaric and primitive. I do say I enjoyed the Nicki Minaj part.

“Shawt Bus Shawty” got the remix treatment, and Rick Ross, Plies, Nicki Minaj, and Lil Wayne all got added to the shawt bus roster. They pretty much nailed it, these “rappers” will end up in asylums. Except for Rick Ross, he will end up on a weight watchers program.

There are times when I’m watching a video of a new artist I automatically jump to conclusions based on their appearance. I know I’m going against the old cliche about books and their covers but I can’t help it I’m human. So when I saw this video I automatically thought this was a joke. However, the young rapper from Oakland Kreayshawn is far from joking. Insert a young white lady that does whatever she wants and raps, and you have Kreayshawn.

Now the rap game has been changing over the past couple years. I’ve actually been documenting some of the better changes to it. One phenomenom that I particulary enjoy is the mash up of indie and hip-hop. It’s a breeding ground for all types of cool hipster hoppers. Unfortunatly this video has jumped lightyears in portraying the invetable future where indie and rap become one. I could be wrong because this video/song makes me gringe. I can see how someone like Kreayshawn fits into what rap is becoming. Hipsters rapping about designer brands not being cool. Hipsters can’t go wrong with this hook. “Gucci, Gucci, Louis, Louis, Fendi, Fendi, Prada The basic bitches wear that shit so i don’t even botha”

We all know that indie-sampling rappers are nothing new nowadays, but rapper K.O. Kid and his producer, friend and tour DJ Ladro have come up with an idea that’s so good I can’t believe no one has done it before – taking Chromeo tracks and flipping them into rap songs.

The Chromeostasis mixtape works well for a number of reasons; Chromeo‘s production is always totally on point and DJ Ladro hasn’t messed with it too much, K.O. Kid really gets into the bouncy, upbeat vibe of the chosen tracks and has an infectious enthusiasm on the mic that I’m really liking, and finally this is definitely good times, vibing in the sun music which helps me imagine how much I’m going to enjoy summer.

So, you can check out a couple of Chromeostasis tracks from these up and comers who have recently opened for Chiddy, Donnis and XV, and who’ll have an album dropping in July.
