B.o.B’s new mixtape dropped today and it has a couple good tracks, a couple. As for the rest – well it didn’t really impress me. Sounds like it’s been done before. The highlighted tracks are below. If these are the best then you can decide for yourself how good this mixtape is.

The first track samples my favorite track of Santogold’s album “Lights Out”, it’s good but not awesome. I think I like it just for that sample, the beat could of been better.

Second track sample’s another track, which is pretty untouchable – Foreigner’s “Cold As Ice” Personally the only good remix of this song was MOP’s hard hitting version of “Cold As Ice”

This is definitely one of my favorite new songs. It’s so good. At first, Adele‘s voice marches forward with the heavy stomping of a bass drum and I think “Ok, Adele wins.” Then, the chorus breaks. Too, too good. Adele owns.

Her album, 21, is going to drop sometime in 2011. I can’t imagine how any other songs on it could stand next to this one, but I’m excited to find out.

When it comes to Canadian indie rock bands, Broken Social Scene are somewhat of a institution. The Toronto-based collective have been around for approximately twelve years and in that time they’ve managed to put out four albums, headline sold out tours and festivals around the world, not to mention launch the careers of many solo artists and other bands including Apostle of Hustle, Brendan Canning, Feist, Kevin Drew, Metric, Stars, and others. Like any other band that’s been around that long, they’ve certainly drawn their share of fans and critics alike. Most Canadian music fans that I’ve talked to either passionately love Broken Social Scene, or vehemently hate them, rarely is there a middle ground. While I wouldn’t call myself the biggest BSS fan by any means – especially compared to some of my friends – there’s no denying the impact they’ve had on the Toronto, Canadian, and international music scene.
The band’s fourth full-length album, Forgiveness Rock Record, was released this summer on Arts & Crafts Records. Now we have a music video for one of the best songs on that album,”Texico Bitches”, which features two businessmen oil-wrestling in a field while their fellow gang members cheer them on. Not entirely sure what this song, or this video is about (perhaps a not-so-subtle reference to this year’s BP oil spill?), but it sure is fun to watch.
