Get some – Lykke Li
Lykke Li is a beguiling personality. I remember hearing her song ‘A Little Bit’ on 6music sometime in early 2008 and thinking, wow, I’ve got to see her live. There was something so sweet and simple about her voice, but the backing instrumentation seemed to suggest there was a dancing princess trying to get out.

That said, it’s very funky, with guitars twanging in the background like good countrified pop. I didn’t like it initially but I have to say, it’s definitely catchy and will get you snapping your fingers. Or maybe like Lykke Li herself, make you feel like pounding on some drums.

Very cute song off jj’s new album. It reminds me of so many things, mainly shooting stars and moments never forgotten.

WTF the video for Rihanna and Drake collaboration, What’s My Name, was released a little less than 4 days ago and it already was viewed more than 7 millions times according to its Youtube page… but then again, the name of Rihanna and Drake alone could carry any song.

So yeah, here’s the visual counterpart of Rihanna’s newest single from her forthcoming album, LOUD, dropped yesterday.

BTW did you see her violet nail polish…..damn…ladies pay attention.

Here’s a video of Damon Albarn’s Gorillaz covering fellow Brits The xx’s “Crystalised” live on BBC Radio 1, one of my favourite songs from last year. The band also played “On Melancholy Hill” from their latest album, Plastic Beach, as well as new single “Doncamatic (All Played Out)”.

Jamie xx, producer extraordinaire behind the sounds of The xx, is into some interesting stuff. His newest project, remixing 13 of the 15 tracks on Gil Scott-Heron’s 2010 record “I’m New Here” has to be one of the most innovative concepts I’ve seen in a long time and a pairing I can’t wait to hear. Both artists are genius, but on sides of the musical spectrum so far apart this news literally floored me. The first single(?) was just released with an accompanying video; it’s Jamie xx’s take on “NY Is Killing Me” and it sounds pretty fresh. The full album, titled “We’re New Here” is dropping in February and you can get more info on it at werenewhere.com.

RZA drops more wisdom. I choose to relate this to all those messed up co dependents Always trying to tell me how to think or what to do. In the end I put the blame on myself. A co-dependent is a symptom to my problem. It’s never to late to change, as my mom has shown me. This is directed towards all those x’s and not the love of my life. Whom I’m eternally in debt, without her love and support I would be as good as dead. Love you sabs…..wait I think I’m codependent too;)

THIS IS A SONG TALKING ABOUT HOW PEOPLE TRY TO TELL WHAT TO DO AND WHAT TO BE… THE SONG CAN RELATE TO A RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MAN AND WOMAN OR CITIZENS AND AUTHORITY…OR JUST ANY CONFRONTATION SUCH AS A BOUNCER AT A CLUB WITH THE GUEST LIST… PEACE, RZA

On those days where I don’t want to get out of bed I generally just throw one song on repeat and create a cocoon of sound to comfort me from the worldly pain. Today it’s “American Life” by this little Canadian outfit called First Rate People. They’ve been swirling around the blogosphere for a little while and they make great (somewhat) lighthearted indie tunes. This one is upbeat, full of pianos and strings and a guy-girl vocal rapport that works really really well. You should definitely listen to it below.

I spent quite some time debating if I should post this, this one is for my significant other. The Nationa are releasing the expanded edition of the fantastic High Violet this week and this track, “Wake Up Your Saints,” is one of the new ones that are coming with it. If you know The National well this track might come off as borderline cheesy, because it’s probably the happiest instrumental they’ve ever recorded. It’s legitimately hard not to smile at. However, it still comes delivered with Berninger’s trademark opaque, introspective lyrics. The result is a great combination.
