1 word. Re-don-cu-lous!
First time attending Osheaga and you can bet that this year performances made me a Osheager for LIFE!. Let’s start of by what I thought was the biggest headliner Weezer. I was jonsing to see them again. The last time was 15 years ago. Which I happily recalled to a fellow fan next me while we waited for the performance to start. ” I was there 15 years ago when they played at the Spectrum, it was a small venue but a crazy show. The crowd was insane. Intense as it could get! The craziest was at the end, those bastards didn’t even play an encore, the crowd wasn’t having it and started throwing chairs.” Anyways needless to say I experienced a small part of Weezer history when he started playing Undone ” The Sweater Song” and Cuomo started to recall the ’95 Spectrum experience. The coolest part but hard to hear in video is he changed the lyrics to the song to ” If you want to destroy the Spectruuum!!” instead of “If you want to destroy my sweater”
25,000 chanting in unison will rock your sooul….for days! This show was epic. Topped off with this gem, Wake Up I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Fireworks blasting off to an incredible show made it hard to choose were to look. I can’t explain this show in words but I can say that it was the best highlight of Osheaga. Arcade Fire, Fireworks, my b-day. My love! Can’t have a better combination. Theses type of shows exist in fairytales, where you enter through 2 magic tunnels and are exposed to utter heaven. Thank you!
As Snoop double dizzle said. Here’s the perfect song for you! He was dead on as he performed to a wasted and high crowd. All one could see is clouds of smoke billowing from the crowd as he yelled ” How many of you like to smoke?” This was one massive audience! Everyone was dancing and moving to Snoop. He played some classics and gave a little 2 song tribute to 2-Pac which was cool. He really got everyone jumping to House of Pains Jump Around. This was one of those shows at Osheaga that you weren’t going to miss and it showed, with what I remember as being the most amped crowd.
Tweeker ALERT! This was hectic!!! The Osheaga event programer Major-ly underestimated Major Lazers drawing power. The Picnic Electronic scene was bursting at the seems with overly hyped individuals. During the time I watched unfortunately I did not hear any Lazerproof songs or any of his famous ones. He mainly bumped out electro hip-hop, dance hall beats and mainly techno sounding remixes.
Speechless……or wordless, The National and Pavement rocking 25,000 people.

The newest and one of my favorite Atlantic rapper drop this unreleased joint, is at least a year old and it’s only now just making it’s way to the public. Wiz played it on one of his DayToday’s in April of last year, and since then, his fan’s have been anticipating this leak.

I’m not sure if this has become obvious or not but I really love The Knocks. “Make It Better”, being released under Neon Gold Records, is the second track the boys are dropping from their string of summer singles and it BUMPS. The song sounds like it could be the theme music to a retro beach party (hence the single artwork). A breezy summer jam that makes you wanna drink something with a tiny umbrella.
The boys deliver on their promise, this song will definitely make it better. The Knocks have some special guests (Samuel, DOM, Emil & Friends to name a few) who remixed the tune making for an eclectic buncha variations. Enjoy the song and the DOM remix below and get all The Knock music your heart desires.

Moxie Black has released 2 tracks from their upcoming free album How Did This Happen?, scheduled to drop August 18th. The song, “So Much Better”, is a healthy mesh of indie-pop and hip hop and a refreshing summer track if I might add! I love this group…but I’m biased:)-

Ra Ra Riot is is ro ro rocking this song. This new single out has me major excited for album. “Boy” is off of the bands upcoming album The Orchard.

Cee-Lo Green covers Band of Horses; that’s one phrase I never thought I’d say, but it’s true and it’s done. Ahead of his August 9, 2010 release, Cee-Lo Green – Lady Killer we get this little morsel of southern lovin. Paul Epworth handles the production/remix effort well enough for Cee-Lo to wail his signature raspy-whiskey-n-cigarette vocals. A sad song turned dance remix…I’m with it.
No One’s Gonna Love You – Cee-Lo

If this is the “short club remix” at over 7 minutes long, then I’d hate to hear the “long club redub”, geez I’m going crazy, for good reason….have to keep reminding myself that *high fives self behind the back into a front fist pound with explosion*, but seriously this is a very cool remix with a big, swirling feel of space and dance.
Florence is giving this one away because she’s celebrating her VMA nominations for Best Video of the Year and Best Rock Video (and a couple others). Watch the video for “The Dog Days Are Over” that got her the nominations at the bottom.

Here is Hoodie Allen’s newest joint “Words of Wisdom”. It samples Two Door Cinema’s “Undercover Martyn” and it’s from the upcoming Pep Rally, which will be heavy on samples (most likely indie rock/pop samples).
The joint is smooth, the production is executed by RJF perfectly, flipping that sample into a clean, laid back, mood setting beat. The only downside for me is that Hoodie Allen sometimes walks a fine line between cool and corny. At times, Hoodie seems to force bad grammar because that’s what rappers do. He opens the song with stereotypical spoken phrases like “Lemme drop that” and while listening, I wonder if there’s a gap between Hoodie the person and Hoodie the rapper. Maybe it’s just the name. It’s too early to say at this point, but overall I believe that Hoodie Allen is onto a good thing. I’m looking forward to hearing more from Pep Rally.

Check out this leak from Young Scolla that didn’t make the final cut for his upcoming album Tears N Triumph. The track, entitled “Stare”, was produced by Tecknowledgy Of The Xtraordinary Gentlemen.

It’s hard to go wrong with that bass line progression (you know, that “Stand By Me” type shit). Don’t get it fd up though, this song is nothing like “Stand By Me”. In terms of structure and melody, it’s timeless, but the young Brooklyn band keeps things 2010 with a current sensibility that you’d expect from a bunch of Brooklyn dudes that look like the guys you see above. It’s a little whiny, but I am really digging this track off their self-titled debut. It’s heavy, sparse, down tempo, filled with emotion, and wonderful.
