Passion Pit’s cover of the Smashing Pumpkin’s estimable 1996 single, “Tonight, Tonight” comes as the latest (and possibly greatest?) installment of Levi’s Pioneer Sessions Revival Recordings series. If you recall, covers of classic songs recorded by She & Him, Dirty Projectors and the Shins have also been released for public consumption.

Passion Pit have always shined a little bit brighter with their ballads. Songs from their debut album, Manners, like “Moth’s Wings” attest to that.

Money is the shit. This might be the most literal video ever, but honestly, who can’t relate? If you’re not concerned with money, you’re a hippie. Sure, it’s not the most important thing in the world (yes it is), but behind a few things I can think of, it’s certainly one of the most instantly satisfying pleasures, and in a world full of instant disappointments/regrets (stubbing your toe, cracking a tasteless joke at exactly the wrong moment, waking up with a piercing headache) we can all appreciate the straightforward pleasure of being handed something which enables you to buy something else. This song expresses the positives of getting some bank in your pocket, but also shines some light on the negatives (???) that come with the green.
This is off Intalek & Ritchcraft’s upcoming EP Lives & Vibes.

Here’s the latest from punkish Canadian garage band Japandroids. I’ve always liked these guys, but I think I might fall in love with them this summer. This loud, youthful anthem has me on my way. You can order the 7″ now.
